Books by Mail

Books by Mail

Books by Mail is a service available to homebound residents who are unable to use conventional print material due to visual impairment or physical limitation. The US Postal Service allows free postage for mailing large print library materials and audio recordings from the library to qualifying individuals.

The Books by Mail program is available thanks to support by the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS).

How It Works

Once enrolled in this program, patrons can make book requests with a librarian via phone, mail, email, or place items on hold on their account through the library’s online catalog if they have access to a computer or mobile device.

Books will arrive at your mailbox through US Postal mail service. Books by Mail items have a six-week checkout period. When you are finished with your books, simply:

  • Place them in the mailbag along with a request form for new books
  • Flip the address card on the front of the bag so it is showing the library address
  • Secure the bag with the provided zip tie
  • Place the bag in the US Postal mail for return to the library – no postage necessary
